which are typically sawn by hand.

Tang chisels have a spike-like structure imbedded in the handle to make a secure
rigid connection so that the chisel may be struck with a hammer. A socket chisel the end
of the metal blade opposite the cutting edge is formed into a socket to receive a wooden handle
typically struck with a mallet.
